Evolution of a comedy

I was glad to see a second Fable II experience, since I enjoyed the first one so much. And it was gladness well rewarded. The sequel is faster, funnier and overal a better animation.

The animation style fits the subject matter well; it's cartoony visuals and interesting character designs worked really well.

The quality of the animation too was fluent and kept a feeling of professionalism throughout the piece. I have one complaint in that when the dude at the end is tossed through the window, there isn't an effect of smashing glass, more of a magical appearing hole in the window . Though this is just me nitpicking.

The quality of the voice acting was one issue that I had against the previous, particularly John who sounded like he was having trouble reading his script. However thankfully this didn't impair my experience this time. The speed of the voices is very noticeable, delivering punchlines at a rapid pace before we can react to the zinger proceeding it. It also makes the occasion embarrassing silence have that much more of an effect.

The hero character (forgot his name already) has lost none of it's appeal; the guy oozes a combination of idiocy, heroism and smugness, which gives the character a fresh characterisation and sense of a new face to the already impressive collection of newgrounds characters. John has grown as a character from the previous animation. Before I felt like he was more of a normal guy, who occasionally got his own back on the hero for picking on him. Now he comes across as more of an asshole, and more of a representation of the randomers who occasionally join in as a co-op partner and this sort of game; the sort of burk who comes in and fucks everything up.

Overal a massive improvement. Anticipating the Fable III experience.
And for the sake of argument, you suck, this is stupid. It's nothing like Fable II and Fable II is out already you idiot, LOL ROFLCOPTER
Plus John looks like vault boy. Nothing wrong with that, just saying.

Thank you very much for the in-depth, awesome review. I think I'll post this to my Facebook page :)

Funky indeed

The stick fighter genre is like the rattata of the animation world, there are so many of them, but with a little nurturing they can become something great.
This particular stick fight is one of the latter.

The choreography of the stick fight was basic, save for a more slapstick feel and incorporating little segments where the fighters just enjoy the music. This style makes for an entertaining fight, and not just the same shit that we've seen a billion times over.

The animation also has a sense of humour and heart; not taking itself too seriously. The opening joke regarding the song really stood out in my mind, and it was only uphill from there.

The music was very fitting with the action, and again delivered a very different pace to the usual generic stick fight. In a very real sense the animation became less of a stick fight, and more of a music video, with the music very much becoming the most influential part of the entire piece.

The animated style was fairly basic, though since this is a stick fight were talking about I honestly didn't expect much in terms of detail.

In short, a fun little video to brighten my day.

LOL I loved that analogy! You're exactly spot on! Thanks a lot I enjoyed reading your comment :)

Entertaining

Personally this isn't my favorite genre of music, and this song didn't really do it for me. However since you did the video not the music, I won't use that as a baring on my review.

The video itself was very pleasing to look at, fitting the music that it went along with. I do take issue with reusing footage from earlier in the video, since most professional videos I think you'll find do not use this. Personally I believe that it just comes across as lazy.

The animated style was in fitting with the context of the music and complimented it rather well. The use of colour and feeling of surrealty during the chorus, combined with the hard hitting visuals accompanying the guitar riffs brought a real feeling of energy and life to the piece.

The quality of the animation had it's ups and down, especially the somewhat jerky movements of the lead singer, as if she was an android or something. Additional time spent on animation or indeed any work is a real pain in the ass, however some extra effort in the animation front would undoubtably be beneficial to your work in the long run.
The somewhat jerky movements however did compliment the somewhat violent guitar segments, again giving it that energy I mentioned earlier.
An area where you refrained from jerky movement however was the opening sequence leading to the church, which in contrast to the other animated segments ran smooth.

The quality of the audio was a big issue for me, especially during the chorus. I appreciate that you intend to fix the "funk", but personally if there is an issue with the animation, then surely the internet would appreciate waiting while it is fixed.
I don't know if you had a deadline to put this up, but as far as I can tell was merely a rush to get it over and on the internet.

To conclude, a little extra effort and time spent could really help your animation in th long run, and hopefully move you up the front page.

Sucks to be you now buddy

Well executed bro. Funny and with perfect timing.
The animation works well too, and the sound comes out smooth.

Hard to fault this. Great job.

Not very professional looking.

Personally I'm too lazy to colour my own animations, but the reason I never posted them is because I see the colour is an important aspect of animation. However here it seems to work. The black and white feel of the animation adds a feeling of character to the video.
However by doing so would have had an impact on the final drawing of the backgrounds, which seemed somewhat incomplete. A little extra time spent on the backgrounds could have given more life to your animation.

The quality of the animation worked well. It wasn't too jerky, and while it was essentially a series of cows standing still with slight movements from the mouth or tail, I don't think you animation suffered because of it.

The music was the real selling point here. The music was clear and worked well with the video, and in a weird way, somewhat moving.

In short while the animation didn't really come across as professional, it worked well. I hope to see more of your work on the front page.

Pretty cool

Popular franchises like Zelda are rip...sorry "Parodied" all the time by fans without original idea's. So to find a gen in the fanboy filth pile is always satifying.

Firstly I love it when the style is done faithfully, especially in a solo movie like this. Wouldn't necessarily fly in a collab, but it works well here.
The quality of the animation too is well done. It moves fluently and really shines out in amongst the afore mentioned dirt pile.

The sound is taken from the game, which adds a new depth to the faithfulness of the movie. Much better than you attempting what you think he should sound like, but then again the movie dosen't need voice acting to deliver it's punchline (pardon the pun).

This leads me to the content. The joke was well executed and funny. Not LOL funny but I could appreciate the joke.

I love when a film ticks all my boxes, and this one did. What really sold me was the animation itself. It really shows when more effort is put in, and this really did.
You can appreciate animation a lot more when it is a parody and not your own jokes with over used character designs.

ScottFalco responds:

Haha yeah the fact that so many get submitted, and the length of my flash was why I was hesitant to upload here

And thank you, I tried to capture Wind Waker's style, and actually looked at a ton of screenshots from the game in order to draw Windfall, its also animated at 30fps

And yeah, for something like this, voice acting wouldnt of worked

The joke was mostly just supposed to be unexpected, and give people a bit of a chuckle,
as mentioned, this was mostly for practice, and so a huge LOL moment was not the point

and thank you, I love when people appreciate the animation and the time put into it

Shaping awesomely

I'm glad that you refered to this as a prototype. Be awesome to see what evolves from this.

S'alright

First press start I've seen, and to be honest not too impressive.

The animation was my main concern with this. It was very rigid and lacked any real sort of movement. The main problem was probably keeping the body upright, and only moving certain body parts at a time.
The character design also left something to be desired. While I did like the designs, the edges seemed very straight and somewhat disproportionate.

The writing was pretty good though. Some funny jokes in there that kept me detracted from the areas of the animation that I disliked.
Voice acting was pretty good. Clear audio and the voices matched the characters, both in tone and pace.
Finally the background worked very well. Worked well with what was one screen. I also liked the choice of music, which really fit the scene well, and didn't drown out the audio.

In the end, a funny video which suffered at the hands of poor animation.

Most awesomeness

Really enjoyed this.

First I'd like to compliment the writing. Personally I love this type of odd humour, though I imagine other's would not. Individualism and all that.
The voice acting was great too; clear and concise. I especially enjoyed the main characters lines, which really defined his character as an arrogant and weird wannabe hero. However the character of Jon's line were very slow speaking, like he was doing an impression of the other character. A bad impression.

The animation was very well done. Smooth frame rate makes all the difference to me.
The art style was great too. Gave the characters a very cartoony feel to them.
The backgrounds were well done also, maintaining that cartoony feel.

In short, great presentation, though a lackluster performance from the supporting character Jon.

Noticeably improved

After reviewing the previous Visitor from Proxima, I was intrigued by the concept for this series.
I'm glad that my question about the fate of his friend was answered.

The style of animation and background design hasn't changed, which is excellent.
The whole theme of the animation has been maintained, retaining the spooky atmosphere of the series.

The music is something that I commented on last time as unfitting, and judging from other reviews I wasn't the only one who thought so.
Thankfully it was taken to heart, and the choice of music this time is more mellow and eerie, maintaining the atmosphere and complimenting the action on screen.

I also noticed that the frame rate this time shows a definite improvement over the previous instalment. Excellent pace and movement.

On a side note, I disagree with the opinion that a flash is "too short". If it's long enough that the story is advanced to a degree then it's never too short.
Though that's just my opinion.

Not sure where the series is going next. Excited to see what happens.
